Xinhua News Agency is the offical press agency of the Chinese government. Headquartered in Beijing, it boasts more than 200 bureaus worldwide, offering news and information in 8 languages 24hours a day. Its predecessor was Red China News Agency, established on 7 November 1931. On the first day of operation, it began to broadcast news using "CSR" as the call letters. In January 1937, the organization changed to its current name in Yan'an, Shaanxi Province.
