As a poet, Pavol Horov followed in his poetry tradition of modern Slovak poetry, represented by Ivan Krasko and Laco Novomeský. His poems were inspired by Symbolism, Poetism and Surrealism and he tended to create his own individual style and poetics. He is often considered as a “poet of home”, as the key motif of his poems is his homeland around Zemplín area and the planes of Eastern Slovakia.

A thangka is a Tibetan-style scroll painting on cotton, silk and paper, which is painted or embroidered. Thangka paintings primarily depict Buddhist subjects such as the Buddha, bodhisattvas, and Buddhist guardians, as well as Tibetan history and ethnic customs. They are mounted with silk brocade in the style of scroll paintings invented in the Xuanhe reign of the Song Dynasty (960-1279). It is said that thangka first originated in the period of the Tibetan Empire (early 7th to mid-9th century) and developed into an art form in the second of the 11th century.

- The hoopoe, which has been given the title of the bird 2014, is a colorful bird in the family Upupidae in the order Coraciiformes, which can rarely be found in Latvia and which has the largest concentration in vicinity of Riga: from Jūrmala to Zvejniekciems.

EUR 0.50 : Jack Snipe
- The jack snipe is one of the 30 bird species in the genus Lymnocryptes found in Latvia. In Latvia, it can be seen during migration in the spring and autumn. It is not usually observed in the summer period, and it overwinters in small groups in the western and central part of the country. The jack snipe can be very secretive and difficult to observe.

Väikekannel and the Teppo accordion are featured in the two stamps.

Väikekannel, the oldest type of Estonian zither, has been in use in this region for at least two thousand years. Its six to 12 strings are made of horsehair, catguts and later of copper wire. The first written document concerning väikekannel in Estonia dates from 1579 when a brawler hit another man on the head with a non-German harp in an inn fight.

The accordion, also called lõõts, härmoonik, korts or põrguorel (hell’s organ), arrived in Estonia with seamen and traders only in the 19th century but became rapidly popular here. Earlier, good accordion players used to be highly popular in case of festivities, such as weddings, and because of that even the date of the festivity could be changed.

Eusébio da Silva Ferreira was born on January 25th, 1942 in the Mafalala neighbourhood in Lourenço Marques (now Maputo), Mozambique. In December 1960, Eusébio arrived in Portugal to play for Benfica.

Eusébio spent fifteen seasons with Benfica, between 1960/61 and 1974/75, where he played 614 matches and scored 638 goals, being the highest scorer in the club. He was a Portuguese international player for over a decade, playing 64 games and scoring 41 goals, and helped the national team achieve third place in the World Cup in 1966, being the top scorer of the championship.

He died on January 5th, 2014, a few days before turning 72.

Juhan Liiv’s work is characterized by simplicity, existential depth and extraordinary power of generalization. Many lines of his poetry are familiar to every Estonian.

The Expo site covers a total area of 241 hectares.
