60th Anniversary of the Korea Coast Guard

Created under the name of the National Maritime Police on December 23, 1953 under the authority of the Public Security Bureau of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Korea Coast Guard has been promoted in status to the Maritime Guard, and to the Korea Coast Guard. Launched with a crew of approximately 600 and with merely 6 patrol boats, the Korea Coast Guard has grown into a giant organization currently boasting 10,000 elite crews, around 300 patrol ships, and 23 aircrafts, in addition to 4 regional headquarters, 16 coastguard stations, a maintenance workshop, and the Korea Coast Guard Academy.
