In 1964, Yuan Longping, a Chinese agriculturalist hailed as "Father of Hybrid Rice", led a team and pioneered in China in the research and development of a better rice breed. In the 1970s, a type of hybrid rice was successfully developed and introduced into extensive cultivation. So far, more than 40 countries have been involved in the introduction, research and promotion of hybrid rice.
