The Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) established Confucius Institutes overseas since 2004. Confucius Institutes are non-profit organizations that aim to teach the Chinese language and spread Chinese culture. By 2012, a total of 400 Confucius Institutes and over 500 Confucius Classrooms have been set up in 108 countries.
