Date of Issue : 22 June 2011
Russia's October Socialist Revolution in 1917 introduced Marxism into China. Beginning in 1920, early organizations of the Communist Party emerged in Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan, Changsha, Jinan and Guangzhou, as well as among Chinese students and immigrants in Japan and France. In July 1921, the First National Congress of the CPC commenced in Shanghai, and soon moved its meeting site to a boat on South Lake in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province. The Congress proclaimed the founding of the CPC. In 1949, the CPC became the ruling party of the country.
