We count the centenary of Estonian athletics from the first athletics competitions in Tallinn and Tartu in 1909.

The last century offers unforgettable moments and emotions to all friends of sports and probably to every Estonian. The brightest of them are connected with the Olympic gold medals of high jumper Jüri Tarmak in 1972 in Munich, of triple jumper Jaak Uudmäe in 1980 in Moscow, of decathlonist Erki Nool in 2000 in Syndey of discus thrower of Gerd Kanter in 2008 in Beijing.

The Preventive Service was set up on 17 September 1909 under the then Imports and Exports Department and tasked with the duties of protecting and collecting revenue on liquors. It was renamed the Customs and Excise Service in 1977 and became an independent government department in 1982. 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the C&ED. Hongkong Post issues a set of four stamps to commemorate this important milestone.

It provides programs for undergraduate, graduate students on four campuses--three in Lanzhou city centre and one in Yuzhong (榆中), which is about 30 miles away from the main campus. Total enrollment is approximately 20,000.

The Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), considered the golden age of classical Chinese poetry. The creations of Li Bai, Du Fu, Wang Wei and Bai Juyi represent the best of Chinese classical poetic forms. Compiled by Sun Zhu of the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), the "300 Tang Poems", a selection of 310 poems, mostly of the prime Tang period, embodies different characteristics and styles of different stages of the Tang. Since its publication during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736 - 1795), it has remained the widest-spread and most influential collection of Tang poems.

An excellent China stamp issue. There are many special effect on this stamp issue. The stamp sheetlet at the top FDC contain all of content of the 300 Tang Poems, totally 25,000 Chinese characters, they were micro-printed on this sheet, every Chinese character is only 0.4mm in height. If you use a special talk-pen to click the micro-printed section, you will hear the reading of every poem. My friend told me the price of the talk-pen is 288 yuan, but he has not seen it at local post office. THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO MY FRIEND IN CHINA FOR HIS VERY NICE FDC AND ALL HIS EFFORT !

An Irish Lady Nano Nagle from Cork ,Ireland had founded “The Congregation Of Presentation Sisters ” in 1775. This Group came to Chennai in 1842 to work for Anglo - Indian Community and began work in St Ursula’s Anglo - Indian School already in existence. The Present Church Park land was acquired in 1904 and Foundation stone laid in 1908 for Sacred Heart High School , Church Park . The School started as a middle school with 137 Students and grew to become a private matriculation school in 1954.

Here comes India's 09-09-09 FDC. The Bhubaneswar GPO pictorial postmark reads "09 SEP 2009", while the special cancellation reads "09-09-2009". Very nice.

The predecessor of the National Library of China was the Beijing Library established in 1909. Today, the library, consisting of its headquarters north of Beijing's Zizhuyuan Park and the Ancient Books Library west to Beihai Park, is a national repository of the home publications, a national bibliographic center, and a national center of ancient books protection.

Another very nice China stamp issue. Last year, both China and India issued stamps for the Beijing Olympic Games on the very special day of 08-08-08. This year, both China and India issued stamps on the special day of 09-09-09. On the FDC above, you can see how China Post present on their postmark the special date 09-09-09. On the datestamp, it reads "2009.09.09". On the special cancellation, it reads "2009.9.9"

The stamp series depicts the sweet delicacy's journey from the flower in the field to people's tables.

The drawing of the hive that appears on the tab of the first stamp is based on a black and white sketch by painter Anna Yamim, which was adapted and coloured by artist Tuvia Kurtz.

The tab of the second tab features Moshe Lerer as he collects honey with his wife Pearl. The picture is based on a photo of the Lerer family, as he adapted and colored by Tuvia Kurtz.

The tab on the third stamp shows modern hives placed along the edges of a field of flowers. The beekeeper, clad in customary protective clothing, collects the honey from the hives.

The brown bear (Ursus arctos) has lived in Estonia since very old times, the late Ice Age.

Every year, about 5 percent of the population is hunted in Estonia to keep the bear population in check in order to maintain the ecological balance and prevent potential damage to apiaries

The brown bear in the stamp and the FDC cover is very very lovely.

The Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (BIB) is an international competitive exhibition of original book illustrations for children and youth. The work as featured on the stamp was a book illustration awarded by the international jury during the 21st Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava, 2007. This event was attended by 387 illustrators from 38 countries. The Grand Prix obtained the German illustrator Einar Turkowski. The featured illustration is taken from the award winning book ‘Es war finster und merkwürdig still’ (‘It was dark and eerily quiet’) published by the Atlantis Publishing House of Switzerland.

Another very nice FDC from Slovakia.

This card shows the Consulate General of Portugal in Macau. It is the former St. Raphael’s Hospital, which is the first of its kind to practice western medicine in Asia. The Portuguese stamp affixed on the card is "900 years of the birth of D. Afonso Henriques" issued on 24 June 2009. The postmark is very clear.

The Five-Color Ponds, the largest pond complex in Huanglonggou, embraces nearly 700 crystalline water bodies, which appear in different colors in sunlight.


One of the highest scenic areas in China, the Huanglong Scenic Area covers an area of 700 square kilometers in Songpan County of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Its primary sight, Huanglong (Yellow Dragon Gully), is a golden sloping area of active calcareous deposition that resembles a huge dragon galloping gown the snow-capped mountain; hence the name Huanglong (Yellow Dragon). In 1992, the Huanglong Scenic Area was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

A very nice stamp issue. It looks better than the Huanglong stamp sheetlet of Hong Kong issued on 28 Feb 2008.
