The Special Olympics World Winter Games PyeongChang 2013

The 2013 PyeongChang World Winter Special Olympics Games, the global sporting event for athletes with intellectual disabilities, will be held in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, for 5 days from Jan. 29 to Feb. 5, 2013.

The first Special Olympics was held in 1968. Since then, it has been held every 4 years, taking turns between the Winter and Summer Olympics.

Approximately 2,300 athletes and 1,000 officials from 120 countries will participate in seven sports ― alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, speed skating, figure skating and floor hockey.

The commemorative stamp featuring both snowshoeing event where athletes walk on the snow and the logo of this Olympics is issued.
