Loiseleuria procumbens - Only one species, alpine azalea, belongs to the Loiseleuria genus. This plant is found only in three locations in Slovakia nowadays. Two of these locations are in the Low Tatras National Park and therefore it became a subject of stamp issue connected with this area. Alpine azalea is very rare and its appearance is very isolated in Slovakia (the closest locations are distant more than 300 km). This species is protected by law and included in the Red List of Endangered Plants in category of critically endangered species.
Saxifraga mutata - Saxifraga genus contains about 440 species. The Saxifrage species is spread in the Alps and the West Carpathians. In the Carpathians we can find it only in one area that is part of Slovakia, in NAPANT (Low Tatras National Park). This area represents the northernmost isolated appearance of this species.

On the cover, I just affixed a Macau MOP 1.5 stamp out of the normal postage of MOP2.5. The souvenir cover arrived at GPO on 16 October. On 20 October, I went to the GPO to get the mail and paid the postage due. The postage due is: ((1 / 2.5) x 2.3) + 4 = HK$4.9. On the cover, you can see the round-shaped T 1/2.5 postmark from Macau and a rectangular Hong Kong "To Pay" chop. Unluckily, the Hong Kong datestamp postmark is rather unclear.

Henrique de Senna Fernandes (October 15, 1923 – October 4, 2010) was a Macanese writer. Born in 1923 as one of 11 siblings to an old Macanese family, whom settled in Macau over 250 years ago, he studied law at the University of Coimbra before becoming a writer. His work, written in Portuguese, evokes the atmosphere of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s in the territory. Often focussing on the lives of characters of mixed racial origins, like the author himself, his work represents a unique viewpoint on the evolution of the territory in the twentieth century.
Besides writing he was a teacher and director at the Pedro Nolasco Commercial School. From 1998 to 2009 he was resident of the General Assembly of CAM, operator of Macau International Airport.
In 2006 he received an honourary doctorate from the University of Macau and Medal of Cultural Merit in 2001.

Anton Bernolák (1762 – 1813)
Date of Issue : 3 October 2012
Anton Bernolák was a prominent representative of the Slovak National Revival at the turn of the 18th and the 19th centuries. He was a Roman Catholic priest, a linguist and an initiator of cultural and social life in Slovakia. The whole generation representing the personalities of Slovak national significance that accepted the Slovak language codified by Bernolák and the idea of Slovak national individuality is named after him. He was born on 3 October 1762 in Slanica (nowadays a non-existent village in the Orava region).
His greatest one and in many respects still unequalled work is Slowár Slovenskí, Česko-Latinsko-Nemecko-Uherskí (Slovak, Czech-Latin-German-Hungarian Dictionary) published in 5 volumes after his death in 1825 – 1827
The stamp depicts the portrait of A. Bernolák with an open book as a symbol of a new beginning of the Slovak language after its codification. The FDC depicts his birthplace.

Date of Issue : 21 September 2012
"Levada" is a Portuguese word derived from the word "levar" - which means to carry, but more correctly defined as mini-canal. The mini-canals are irrigation systems developed to distribute water from the rainfall heavy and wet regions on the north of Madeira island to the drier sun parched regions of the south. The levadas criss cross the mountains and cover a total distance of 2500 km, and date back to as far as the early 16th century.
The Levada "Walks" are walking trails along the maintenance paths beside the Levadas.

450th Anniversary of Duchy of Courland and Semigallia
Date of Issue : 21 September 2012
LVL 0.55 stamp : Duke of Courland and Semigallia Jacob Kettler (1610-1682).
During Jacob's rule that the Duchy achieved peak prosperity. Kettler ruled from 1642 to 1682, promoting growth in industry, trade and shipbuilding. The duke effected international trade by concluding agreements with Spain, France, Venice, Portugal and many other lands, including the Ottoman Empire. He established colonies on St. Andrews Island at the Gambia River and Tobago in the Caribbean Sea.
LVL 0.35 stamp : Duke Ernst Johann von Biron.
He was born in 1690 and was the first Duke of Courland and Semigallia of the Biron dynasty. He became the Duke of Courland and Semigallia twice - from 1737 to 1741 and from 1763 to 1769. During his rule, palaces were built in Jelgava and Rundāle to a design by the Italian architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli.
The Duchy of Courland and Semigallia was an autonomous vassal state of Poland-Lithuania, which from 1562 to 1795 included most of Courland, Semigallia and Selonia. The Duchy was successively ruled by two dynasties - the Kettlers and the Birons - as well as several unrelated dukes.
The design of the FDC incorporates a sailing ship, reminding about the development of shipping and colonies belonging to the Duchy during the rule of the famous Duke Jacob.
