Centennial Anniversary of International Women's Day
Date of Issue : 8 March 2010
March 8, 2010 marks the centennial anniversary of International Woman's Day. On March 8, 1909, Chicago woman workers marched in strike, demanding for better conditions. The next year, at the Second International Conference of Working Woman, Clara Zetkin, leader of the Woman's Office for the Social Democratic Party in Germany, proposed that every year in every country there should be a celebration of International Woman's Day on March 8, as was unanimously approved. In December 1949, Chinese central government designated March 8 as Woman's Day.
