St Catherine’s of Võru

Date of Issue : 24 July 2013

St Catherine’s of Võru was built in the years 1788–1792. Its inauguration was took place on July 24, 1793. The late baroque church with strong early classical features is attributed to Christoph Haberland, an architect based in Riga. The altar part of the church was put up a few years after completion of the church and it received its present appearance only in 1860. The spire received its final shape in 1879 and at the same time also a clock with four faces, which well serves the citizens until today, was put. The church has two tower clocks – the smaller one weighing 460 and the bigger one 850 kg. In 2013, simultaneously with the 220th anniversary of the church also the centenary of its organ built by the Kriisa brothers will be marked.

A new Macau International Reply Coupon (IRC), with a clear Almirante Lacerda Post office datestamp postmark of the date 23 July 2013. I did not expected it was so difficult to buy an IRC in Macau. It was sold out at three different post offices, and was told that there was a person buying 200 IRCs at a time. Unbelievable !

XXV Nationwide Latvian Song and XV Dance Festival

The Song and Dance Festival this year will take place from June 30 to July 7.

The new stamps depict the Festival's participants - choir singers and dancers - in ornate national costumes. The stamp block and the first-day cover also incorporate the Festival's logo, which has been inspired by Jānis Lūsēns' song Rieta lūgšana (Sunset Prayer) with lyrics by Inese Zandere, recorded by Latvijas Pasts mixed choir.
